2013 News & Events



Published November 2013: Dr. Lawrence Ellerby was invited to author a chapter in Linda Grossman & Steve Walfish (Eds.) Translating Research into Practice: A Desk Reference for Practicing Mental Health Professionals. Springer Publishing. The chapter is entitled Treatment of Sexual Offending Behaviour in Adult Males: Clinical Response.



October 2013: Dr. Daniel Rothman presented a pre-conference seminar with co-author Dr. Elizabeth Letourneau on empirically and ethically supported practices for adolescents who have engaged in abusive sexual behaviors at the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) conference in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

October 2013: Ms. Shosana Funk and Circles of Support & Accountability (CoSA), conference presentation: Ms. Funk joined CoSA in the presentation of Making Peace Happen in the Face of Long Term Entrenched Patterns of Violence during CoSA’s workshop at the Association for Conflict Resolution conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

September 2013: Dr. Lawrence Ellerby provided training to the Istanbul Police Department in Istanbul, Istanbul Province, Turkey.

September 2013: Dr. Lawrence Ellerby delivered a component of the Violent Offender Behaviour Course for Calgary Police Services through the Canadian Police College, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

April 2013: Dr. Lawrence Ellerby delivered a component of the Violent Offender Behaviour Course, Offender profiles, mental disorder and criminal analysis at the Canadian Police College, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

March 2013: Dr. Lawrence Ellerby provided training for Winnipeg Police Services (WPS) Major Sex Crimes Investigators Course, at the WPS Training Academy. The training was entitled: Investigative Implications for Understanding Offender Dynamics, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.


Other Events:

October 2013: Dr. Lawrence Ellerby was elected Chair of Sex Crimes Against Children, a sub-group of INTERPOL’s Specialists Group on Crimes Against Children.

January – February 2013: Dr. Lawrence Ellerby sat on the Canadian Psychological Association’s Task Force on Correctional/Forensic Psychology.

January & February 2013: Mr. Shawn VanWalleghem and Ms. Shannon Buck were invited to present a lecture on First Nations Culture to students of Applied Counselling at Red River College, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
